Description

We are currently seeking a Captioner, Live Voice English to join our group at VITAC Canada, a core division of The Verbit Group. VITAC's 35 years of captioning expertise together with Verbit's dual Artificial Intelligence + Human Intelligence method, makes us the most trusted solution for ensuring all video and audio content, both live and recorded, is accessible to everyone.

Are you interested in the media and want to make a difference for the deaf and hard of hearing? VITAC Canada, a Verbit company, is looking for serious and motivated candidates to join its team of voice captioners to produce hearing impaired captioning for live TV shows using its voice recognition technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce high quality live captions that meet CRTC standards with the use of its own software application developed here at VITAC Canada
  • Simultaneously repeat and interpret the words heard in a coherent manner and structure the statements using punctuation
  • Conduct and carry out the research required to prepare the different types of topics and programs to be captioned and become familiar with the vocabulary
  • Ensure the revision and correction of transcriptions in order to supervise and maintain the quality of the productions

In order to be great at this job, you’ll need:

  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills
  • Excellent English diction and grammatical skills
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and organize information effectively
  • Good Computer skills and ability to learn new applications quickly
  • Comfortable with Windows applications environment
  • Good attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Resourceful and ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to remain calm under stress
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to follow instructions, quality standards, and productivity requirements
  • Ability to speak continuously for long periods of time

Nice to have:

  • Basic knowledge of French (spoken and written)
  • Previous captioning experience, interest in televised sports and news broadcasts
  • College or University degree (completed or in progress) in communication, journalism, literature, linguistics or a related field

Working conditions 

  • Part-time positions (21-25 hours / week)
  • Evenings and overnight shifts
  • Your schedule will depend on production volumes and depend on your availability
  • This in an on-site position, Remote work is not possible.

Base Salary: $21.00 per hour(overnight 20% paid premium)

Training : We offer a mandatory and comprehensive three (3) week training period for all new hires. The training is full time hours and held during week-days.

Only selected candidates will be contacted.

Selected candidates will be submitted to English Language competency tests.
